چکیده

An extensive study of the language abilities of one deep dyslexic patient, B.L., was undertaken. Tests of his ability to comprehend and produce words in the auditory, verbal, and graphic modalities revealed striking similarities in performance across modalities, such that the defining symptoms of deep dyslexic reading also held true for this patient’s writing, repetition, and naming. A new dual-deficit model of deep dyslexia is presented which predicts that a variety of “deep dyslexic” syndromes may occur with or without modality-specific impairments.

Modality specific word comprehension deficits in deep dyslexia.

A deep dyslexic patient was tested on a series of experiments designed to assess her comprehension of abstract words. On tests where a precise semantic representation of words was required, performance was much poorer with visual than with auditory presentation. However, on some but not all categorisation tests performance with both modalities was good. It is argued that deep dyslexia can resul...

Auditory Morphological Knowledge Among Children With Developmental Dyslexia

The aim of the present study is to examine the morphological knowledge of readers with developmental dyslexia compared to chronological age and reading-level matched controls. The study also analyzes the errors dyslexics make and their metamorphological awareness compared to controls. Participants included 31 seventh-grade dyslexic children and two matched control groups of normal readers: 34 s...

Brain activation during reading in deep dyslexia: an MEG study.

Magnetoencephalographic (MEG) changes in cortical activity were studied in a chronic Finnish-speaking deep dyslexic patient during single-word and sentence reading. It has been hypothesized that in deep dyslexia, written word recognition and its lexical-semantic analysis are subserved by the intact right hemisphere. However, in our patient, as well as in most nonimpaired readers, lexical-semant...

Impaired pronunciations of kanji words by Japanese CVA patients

We report contrasting oral reading impairments for Kanji (Japanese logographic or morphograpnic) words in two Japanese neurological patients with CVA. Through neurological battery tests one was identified as a surface dyslexic, while the other was identified as a phonological dyslexic. A Kanji-word oral reading test revealed that the Legitimate Alternative Reading Component (LARC) errors, analo...

Visual and auditory synchronization deficits among dyslexic readers as compared to non-impaired readers: a cross-correlation algorithm analysis

Visual and auditory temporal processing and crossmodal integration are crucial factors in the word decoding process. The speed of processing (SOP) gap (Asynchrony) between these two modalities, which has been suggested as related to the dyslexia phenomenon, is the focus of the current study. Nineteen dyslexic and 17 non-impaired University adult readers were given stimuli in a reaction time (RT...
